Renfrew is a great community filled with amazing citizens who love to give back!

This month, there are 4 fun fundraisers that everyone can participate in.

Catch The Ace

Catch The Ace is a well known and loved fundraiser in the community.

What is Catch The Ace? As stated on the Renfrew Victoria Hospital website, the lottery starts with 52 playing cards individually sealed in envelopes numbered 1 through 52. These envelopes are put on display in the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation office. Nobody knows which envelope contains the Ace of Spades – until the lucky winner catches it! When tickets are purchased supporters will be asked to pre-select an envelope number on their ticket stub. The lucky weekly winner takes home 20% of that week’s ticket revenues and the envelope number selected on the ticket will be opened to reveal a playing card. If the card is not the Ace of Spades, the card will be destroyed and the lottery continues for another week. If the card is the Ace of Spades, the weekly winner also win the progressive jackpot! The progressive jackpot grows each week with 30% of weekly ticket sales revenue being added in.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the following locations:

Last year, Catch The Ace raised 2.5 million dollars for the Renfrew Victoria Hospital! With the money raised, RVH was able to pay for a new X-ray suite including equipment, IT and infrastructure and portable X-ray machines. In addition, RVH purchased defibrillators for all departments and iPads for emergency rooms and all patient rooms.

Going into Week 7 of the current draw, the lottery is up to $51,000 already! This year’s proceeds will be going towards capital equipment for the emergency department.

This fundraiser is very important as no equipment is funded by the government, meaning RVH has to raise the money on its own.

Now, what are you waiting for? Go purchase a ticket to help out your local hospital and maybe you will become a millionaire!

Hike for Hospice

Renfrew’s Hospice is an essential part of our community. In order to show our support, the hospice holds an annual hike in order to raise money for end-of-life care.

This year’s event will be VIRTUAL and will be held on Saturday, October 10th. You can register as an individual hiker or register with friends and family as a group. You may then hike anywhere you would like! Walk along your favourite trail, in your neighbourhood, on a treadmill in your home, or anywhere else you desire.

Don’t forget to take a picture while on your hike! It would be great to see all of the lovely participants. Share your photo at or tag them on Facebook.

If you are interested in participating, do not hesitate to sign up as the event is approaching fast! You can register here. More information about the event can be found on their website.

Teachers Against Poverty

Teachers Against Poverty is a non-profit organization that helps students and their families in need in the Renfrew area.

Their first fundraiser, a virtual auction, has recently kicked off! The auction began on October 7th and will run until October 25th.

Please visit their Facebook page to view the items available!

Listed here is all of the information for the event:

Although we cannot participate in these fundraisers as we would have in the previous years, these organizations have worked extremely hard to provide the community with virtual events. Hopefully you can participate in some way!
